As Dionne Warwick famously sang;
If you see me walking down the street
And I start to cry
It’s probably my feet………
What is it that motivates someone to walk the Camino de Santiago, a five hundred mile pilgrimage route across the north of Spain leading to the tomb of St James the Apostle in Santiago de Compostela? Won't it hurt a bit?
Graeme Cook found himself exercised by such questions during the confinement of the first Covid-related lockdowns in 2020. Fast forward two years and he and Mrs C were setting off from the French Pyrenees to find out for themselves. Twelve months later they were at it again, this time from Porto, and even then they weren't quite yet finished as they returned to Santiago later in the year to walk on to Finisterre, for many being the spiritual end point of the Camino.
It was the adventure of a lifetime. This book takes you on all three Caminos. From initial intrigue to planning and practice, accommodation, walking, myths and legends plus occasional embellishment, all washed down with plenty of beer.
